Keihin Cr Special Carburetor Tuning Manual
I tried to carefully adjust fully open and closed but I still don't get good vacuum from the inner carbs! Only when I give throttle the slider on the sync tool moves up. I tried to find some more in-depth info on the CR Special's, but wow, there is NO info about those carbs anywhere, it seems. Either the needles were mismarked, or the chart is wrong. To get it to work right, I slimmed the needles in the area corresponding to 1/4 open throttle. Derek, Referring to the following needle availability for the CR carbs: If you look at the available needles,.
So i have zero experience with carbs. I don't even know where to really begin. I've tried reading this and the fcr faq on here But there's no real start here, or turn this screw on either of those. I have bad sputtering and it feels like my motor is starving for fuel from 5-7k. I can hear the motor pulling a good vacuum of air but it sputters and sounds like shit and has no power at those rpm's. Were do i start with these carbs?
The previous owner did a lot of work including fcr 41's, slips on's, air box mod, port and polish heads but i can't get this pos to run right. So i have zero experience with carbs. Sounds like mine when I started on it. I know it sounds large - but I ended up going from 155 mains (what the carbs came with) to 182! Pretty much by buying a whole lot of mains, and changing them one (jumped a few sizes initially once I'd figured out which direction was working) size at a time and then going for a (hard out) blast - I live rural, so that part was easy., until it got close enough that I couldn't tell much difference. Just went and pulled one out - DEFINITELY #182!
It was a couple of years ago now - and I can't remember if I lifted the needles 1 clip or not. No porting or the likes on mine, changes listed in my sig. And I'm gonna put the damn jet size in it as well now! One day, I'll get it on a dyno, and see if it needs a little more 'tweaking', but it's near enough for now. With the mods listed below, and jetting as stated - I get about 15% BETTER fuel economy than standard, over the same 200km run! 8.6litres now, was 10litres. And for an old girl - she hauls ass!
Just remembered another thing - you need to check that the slides are synchronised! DON'T use a vacuum gauge - use a round feeler gauge (I used a small drill bit), and set them so they're both open the same amount with the idle screw backed right out.
